Let's dive into this month's theme...
Here are the four prompts for May:
If you're new to the newsletter, how you interpret the prompts is entirely up to you – the goal is to simply to spark your creativity on those days when you feel stuck. Here are a few loose suggestions to get you started if you're not sure where to begin.
Underwater Garden: Be inspired by all the beautiful plants (and animals that look like plants) which create the magical technicolor "gardens" of a tropical reef: for example, sea grass, kelp, seaweed, coral, sea fans and sea anemone.
Cool School: Tropical fish are so fun to draw! The shapes, patterns and color combinations are endless. You can draw one fish or a school of them!
Mer-MAY-zing: Every year in May, there's a popular drawing challenge on Instagram called #MerMay with all kinds of whimsical mermaid interpretations. Feel free to get creative - a mermaid doesn't have to look like Ariel - it could be a merman, a purrmaid... anything you can dream up. I created a Pinterest board with 75+ examples to help spark your ideas.
By the way, the official MerMay2022 challenge has a full set of prompts for the entire month if you're interested.
Seascape: Feel free to create any sea-inspired piece. Whether it's a hand lettered quote, a repeat pattern of sea shells or an underwater scene filled with colorful sea creatures. Whatever floats your boat! :)
