One of the reasons summer is my favorite season is because I get to indulge in alllll the good fruit! I don't know if it's just because I grew up in the Caribbean but I'm fairly obsessed with fruit - I can (and do) happily eat multiple mangoes a day when they're in season (we had a tree in our backyard when I was growing up and man, I miss that tree!). Anyway, my fruit fixation inspired this month's 'Fruit Punch' theme.
Here are the four prompts for August...
If you're new to the newsletter, how you interpret the prompts is entirely up to you – the goal is to simply to spark your creativity on those days when you feel stuck. Here are a few loose suggestions to get you started if you're not sure where to begin.
Fruit & Flowers: This one is pretty straightforward and a classic go-to combination. There are so many varieties of fruit and flowers to choose from, the options are pretty endless. You can combine hand lettering with illustration, create a repeat pattern or stick with just illustration. I've created artwork like this many times so if you're looking for inspiration, you can take a peek at these posts here, here, here and here.
Fruit Cocktails: Drinks on the beach, drinks by the pool, cocktails, mocktails and more - get inspired by your favorite fruity drinks.
Berry Blend: Bring on the berries! Classic summer favorites like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries could be included in a cute farmer's market illustration, turn them into cute earrings for a portrait illustration or bring out your best berry pun for a greeting card design. Lots of berry good options to choose from ;)
Fruitopia: What's your idea of a fruity utopia? Mine would be a tree full of ripe mangoes all year round (I told you, I'm obsessed). For this one you could feature your favorite fruit, or perhaps draw something fun and exotic (dragon fruit immediately comes to mind). Here's a list of tropical fruit - some more exotic than others - if you'd like to explore something new.
